What does boxing look like at UBX?

Everybody knows that boxing gets you seriously fit, it’s easy to learn and anyone can do it. At UBX we’ve combined the concepts of boxing, personal training and group fitness classes, and created a flexible, highly results-driven format that’s suitable for all fitness and experience levels.

There’s no boxing ring, and you never have to spar with other members – our workout is completely adaptable to each individual and offers a fun, high-intensity boxing and strength workout that’s finished in under 45 minutes.

What to expect at your first UBX workout

If you’ve never boxed before, our coaches will take you through a simple induction prior to your first workout to demonstrate each of the basic punches and evasions we use in our workouts. For those that have prior boxing experience, our coaches can increase the complexity of your padwork when you work with them 1-on-1 during boxing rounds.

All members require a pair of boxing gloves. We recommend a 10oz pair, which is the perfect weight for both bagwork and padwork with coaches, and a design with a velcro strap so that they are easy to put on and take off between boxing rounds.

We also recommend boxing hand wraps or quick wraps to provide extra protection for your hands and knuckles inside your gloves.


6 Rounds of Boxing, 6 Rounds of Strength

Our workout is inspired by the 12 round championship bouts in professional boxing, to mimic the physical demands of a fight. Each round is 3 minutes in duration, with 30 seconds rest before the next round. You can start at any round, and work independently until you’ve completed all 12 rounds.

On 6 of the rounds, you’ll find a variety of boxing equipment, including boxing bags, floor-to-ceiling bags, or speedballs, with a combination programmed for you, along with a secondary exercise that you can perform without removing your boxing gloves. On these rounds, you’ll also get the opportunity to work 1-on-1 with a UBX coach on padwork. The remaining 6 rounds offer a combination of strength, power, aerobic and endurance exercises, using a variety of weight, cardio and resistance equipment and body weight movements.

1-on-1 Boxing Padwork

Our coaches work with you to adjust the intensity and complexity of your training. They can scale the combinations and exercises to suit your current fitness level and experience, whether that’s a progression or a regression to adapt the workout to your needs. During a boxing bag round, a UBX coach will come over to give you some 1-on-1 padwork. This individualised training allows the coach to fine-tune your technique, offer personalised tips, and push your intensity to match your goals.

Coaching Screens on every round

To further support your journey, each round of your workout has a coaching screen to guide you. These screens display the boxing combinations on boxing rounds, demonstrated by our co-founder and head of boxing, Danny Green – a four-time world champion boxer and former Olympian. Each round also includes a boxing tip from Danny, to give you a specific element to focus on and improve with each round.

Whether you’re doing bagwork or padwork with your coach, you’ll be blasting calories and having fun while doing it.
