Speaking to Courtney about her Training Camp experience and member journey so far, this is what she had to say:

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A UBX’ER?

“I usually play netball and stay on top of my fitness for that, but during lockdown being unable to play I kind of let myself go.

I decided after the Covid-lockdown to try something new, and I’d seen the UBX in Clayfield a few times, driving past. One day I booked in a trial around, and after my first workout, Isigned up straight away.

I had trained at a normal gym for over 8 years, but after Covid I knew I needed to change things up. I particularly wanted a little more cardio in my training style, so I went in and tried it out, then signed up there and then. That was about September or October 2020.”

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO SIGN UP?

“The workout just tricks you into doing things that might not otherwise be enjoyable. Like how the boxing gets you doing cardio but its fun. And the workout is always different, even now there are still new exercises all the time.

I love it so much, I’ve even brought friends along with me to train at UBX too. It’s basically like one big family. Now I’ve encouraged a few more friends, especially netball friends to come along.

We find that the training translates really well into Netball. Particularly the functional and strength training. I just feel so much more confident and stronger on the courts that I’ve ever been before.”

WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO DO THE TRAINING CAMP?

“I’ve done 2 other camps before and haven’t really taken it seriously before, I didn’t really take the photos or anything.

I decided this time around I needed to look at why I hadn’t done well before. I knew that food had been difficult for me before, so I decided to do My Muscle Chef for the Training Camp, and that was so simple.

Once I was eating well everything changed, I had much more energy and better recovery as well. I could train more and sustain it.”

WHAT WAS YOUR APPROACH TO TRAINING CAMP?

“I was already training pretty consistently because of netball, between training and games, but during Camp I incorporated extra cardio as active recovery, like swimming, which was also a good form of stretching. And I really used the opportunity to work on my nutrition. The Training Camp was great in that it gives you a reason to work harder, but not just on your training, on all aspects of your health and fitness like what you’re eating, how you’re recovering, and making lifestyle changes to prioritise training and staying active.”

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO OTHERS?

“You have to be in the right sort of frame of mind. It’s a lifestyle change over the 6 week period. Although it might seem like a lot of time, it’s not when you’re in it. It’s important to make sure that even if you’re working hard that you’re still taking care of yourself and staying focused on what you’re doing. It’s okay to reward yourself for the handwork, like if you want a burger go have it, but you could choose a grilled burger over another fast food, fried option.

It’s not just the training, it’s your nutrition and your mindset as well.

Look at all of those factors in your life and think about  what works best for you.”

WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS NOW?

“In myself I feel both physically and mentally so much more confident.

I packed on a lot of muscle which was unexpected, but so exciting.

I basically want to keep working on my muscle and improve my benchmarks even further.”

WHAT ARE YOU FIGHTING FOR?

“I’m fighting for my team mates [in netball]. I’m the captain of my QLD team, so whenever things get hard I look at the bigger picture and how being at my best is my way of respecting how they always give their best.”

JOHN PHIPPS
MALE INTERNATIONAL WINNER

In just 6 weeks, John achieved a strong before and after transformation:

✅ Lost 0.4kg overall body weight

✅ Decreased his body fat percentage by 3.9%

✅ Increased his muscle mass by a massive 2kg

And in addition to his aesthetic and compositional changes, John improved his athletic performance and overall fitness, with improvements across every single one of his Benchmark exercises:

✅ Improved his 1:20 Row Benchmark by 21m to a total of 428m

✅ Improved his 3:00 Push Up into Clean and Press by 4 Reps to a total of 53 reps

✅ Improved his 15 Cal Ski erg by 4 seconds to a total of 30 seconds

Here’s what he had to say about his experience:

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A UBX’ER?

“In October last year that my wife decided to try UBX with a 28 Day Results Pack, and I thought it sounded great and wanted to try it out with her.

I was a sports person when I was young, swimming, soccer, football, and the like, but hadn’t really done a lot in my older age. I actually wasn’t sure I’d be able to do it because of previous injuries, particularly in my shoulder, and boxing being such a big part of it.

But after we’d tried the workout, with the help of the coaches and the ability to adapt the exercises, I loved it and no longer had those concerns. We decided to go ahead and sign up. I’m pretty competitive too, so the environment at UBX is awesome for me. “

WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO DO THE TRAINING CAMP?

“I just wanted to be better than where I was after the previous challenge I did.

I set myself a target based off my body composition scan for where I thought I should be, but it was more just to maintain my fitness and achieve muscle.”

WHAT WAS YOUR APPROACH TO TRAINING CAMP?

“Diet is definitely important. My wife and I use My Muscle Chef for dinner, and I made sure I had sufficient protein to support my progress. I was really conscious of calories in and calories out but still made sure I enjoyed my food when I wanted it.

To me it’s all about sustainability. Anyone who puts their mind to it can lose weight, but it’s important to set achievable, realistic goals to maintain it long-term. It was important to me that I stay on track and don’t yo-yo back.”

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO OTHERS?

“Be realistic with your goals to ensure that you can sustain the lifestyle even after the challenge. And spoil yourself a little bit, there’s nothing wrong with that. Make changes where you can but still enjoy what you love.”

WHAT ARE YOU FIGHTING FOR?

“I’ve been married over 20 years to my wife and I still want her to think I’m sexy haha. I have a 12 year old son, and I want to be a grandad one day. I focus on sustainability because I want to be around for a long time, to see him find a girlfriend and make his own family one day.

So, I do it for my family.”

Congratulations to these two fighters who took on Training Camp like champions and achieved these amazing transformations, physically, athletically and mentally.

Thank you to all of our UBX’ers and UBX’ers that joined us for 10 // Training Camp.
