Have you heard about UBX and been intrigued by our unique boxing and strength workout, but you’re not quite sure what to expect? Let us take you through a play-by-play of what will happen once you walk through our doors!
Walk In, Gloves On
When you come to UBX for your first workout, you can expect to be greeted by one of our coaches, waiting for your arrival (assuming you’ve booked ahead). After a quick introduction to the gym, pointing out our amenities and getting to know you a little, it’ll be time for a quick warm-up, then into your workout. For your workout, you’ll need a pair of boxing gloves, and if you don’t already own gloves, don’t sweat it—grab a pair of ours available for loan on your first visit. We also highly recommend a pair of hand wraps or quick wraps to protect your hands and knuckles – so be sure to bring these along, and if you’re unsure how to use them, we’ll show you.
A Quick Intro to Boxing
No prior experience? No problem. We start every new member with a quick boxing induction. At your first workout, a coach will take you through an induction to demonstrate and teach you basic boxing punches and evasions, and explain the workout and the equipment. This way you can start your workout and feel confident you’ll know your way around – but we’ll still be nearby in case you need any help.
Pick Your Round, Start Anytime
In case you hadn’t heard – we don’t have class times at UBX (https://ubxtraining.com/blog/on-demand-access-to-your-gym-coaches-and-workouts/). You can simply arrive, pick a round and get started. Our workout consists of 12 rounds, 3 minutes each, with 30 seconds rest in between. Simply follow the Coaching Screens at each station for visual guides on your exercises.
Boxing & Strength Training Combined
At UBX, we mix it up. Half of our workout is focused on boxing whilst the other half offers a combination of strength, conditioning and cardio. On boxing rounds, you’ll complete a series of bagwork or padwork with your coach, in combination with an exercise as a superset. Then on Strength rounds, you’ll find a series of functional and power-based movements with a combination of body weight and weighted, and also some cardio equipment.
Coaches By Your Side
Our coaches are with you the entire way. After your initial introduction, your coach will continue to check-in throughout your workout, supporting you with form and technique adjustments, and offering 1-on-1 padwork on your boxing rounds. This way, if you’re ever unsure about an exercise, need help making an adjustment to suit your needs or just need a little extra support to get the most of your workout, we’re right there waiting.
Your Workout, Your Pace
UBX lets you control your workout. As you take on each round, it’s up to you to control your speed, tempo and effort. So depending on where you’re at with your fitness, your energy levels that day, or your goals – you can make the necessary adjustments to suit your needs. When it comes to boxing you can control the complexity of your combinations, and when it comes to strength, we’ll have a variety of weights available so you can select the right ones for you.
Completing the workout
Once you’ve completed all 12 rounds, take a moment to catch your breath, cool down, and soak in the fact that you just crushed your first UBX workout. Whether you came for the boxing, strength training, or the community vibe, we’re confident you’ll walk out feeling stronger, more confident, and ready to take on your next challenge.
