Introducing Ed: UBX Graceville’s Everest Challenger

At UBX, we love seeing our coaches and members take on challenges that push the limits – both physically and mentally. We’re following along with Coach Ed from UBX Graceville as he sets out on an expedition that embodies all we stand for: pushing boundaries, embracing new experiences, and motivating others in the process. He has his sights set on Everest Base Camp and is trading the gym floor for the Nepalese trails.

Life Outside UBX

When Ed isn’t putting members through their paces at UBX, you’ll likely find him outdoors or chasing a new adventure. His days are packed with coaching sessions, university study as he works toward his Exercise Sport Science degree, and plenty of training of his own. On top of that, he’s currently learning to ride a motorcycle and has his sights set on getting a boat license later this year.

Why Everest?

Ed has been a UBX coach for just over a year, and while he’s always been active, the idea of trekking to Everest Base Camp came almost on a whim.

“I was looking for a holiday,” he says. “And thought, what better way to relax than to trek to base camp?”

Not your typical “holiday,” but certainly one that fits Ed’s adventurous spirit.

Training for the Trek

When it comes to preparation, Ed has been keeping things simple but tough:

“My training has mostly consisted of going on 10km runs and endurance training – trying to maintain a high heart rate and not letting the pace drop.”

It’s that consistency and focus on endurance that will carry him through the long days on the trail.

A Big Adventure Abroad

While Ed has tackled a few local hikes, like Mt Barney, this will be a whole new level. In fact, the trip will mark his first time traveling to another country outside of the UK and Australia.

That alone makes the adventure exciting, but what Ed is most looking forward to goes beyond the physical challenge.

“I’m most excited about the views and the culture change. As we live in a bit of a bubble here in Brisbane, I can’t wait to experience something totally different.”

Lessons From the Journey

For Ed, this isn’t just about ticking Everest Base Camp off the bucket list. It’s about growth.

“I hope to take away valuable life lessons and to just enjoy the journey,” he says.

At UBX, we believe challenges like this are what shape us – not just as athletes, but as people. We can’t wait to see the lessons and stories Ed brings back to the gym floor.

Let’s rally behind Ed as he takes on Everest, embodying the very best of UBX every step of the way!
