Life gets busy and sometimes finding time for fitness can feel like a monumental task – but it doesn’t have to!
Rather than feeling like you have to find more time, we encourage our members to take an holistic look at their lifestyle and priorities and identify ways to make fitness work into their lives.
Whether it’s a quick 30-minute at-home workout on the days you can’t make it to the gym, or getting creative with incidental activity, there’s always a way to stay active, no matter how busy life gets.
Look at your schedule
Take a look at your schedule and instead of trying to squeeze exercise in, prioritise it and take unnecessary things out. The goal is not to do more, but to do less and to do it well! Fitness is not a seasonal hobby, it’s a lifestyle, therefore, should always be included in your days in some form or another.
For example, if you know that you have an event the next day, think about how much time you’ll need to get ready, travel to your destination and get there on time, then schedule yourself an extra hour before hand (even if that means waking up earlier) to fit in a quick 30 minute workout. If time is still quite scarce throughout the holiday period, look for opportunities to stay active!
Get creative with incidental activity
Incidental activity is any activity built up in small amounts over the day, and can be boosted by finding opportunities to continually get moving:
- Going to your local shops? Why not walk there?
- Wherever you’re going, think about whether you could take the opportunity to go for a quick walk, jog or bike ride.
- Combine exercise with family commitments. If you’re headed to the beach or park, bring along a footy or cricket set and get everyone involved in a quick game! It’s fun, gets you moving and can inject a little friendly competition into your get-togethers.
- Increase your steps throughout the day – choose the stairs over an elevator or escalator, park a little further away or take the longer route.
- Enjoy the surroundings outside your home, go outside and do some gardening, or simply go for a walk outside and enjoy the sunset before settling in at the end of the day.
Remember to have fun
Daily activity is important, but it’s difficult to stay consistent if you don’t enjoy it. In the same way UBX is an enjoyable workout, find ways to make your other forms of physical activity fun!
Turn an outdoor walk into an adventure, change up your route, or drive to somewhere interesting with a nice view. Learn a new sport or hobby; you could even practise your boxing with some shadowboxing from our equipment-free workouts!
Use nature as your gym
Holidays are a great time to catch up with friends and family. Why not opt for a social bush walk or mountain climb? Maybe your local park has an outdoor gym set, or set of stairs you could do some sprints and bodyweight exercises on. It’s all about thinking outside the box. There’s ample opportunity to stay active when you simply look around!
