Boost Your Activity with Incidental Exercise

In order to achieve your goals, you don’t have to push yourself to exhaustion every single week, you simply need to remain consistent in your training and nutrition. Find ways to move and keep active, even when you can’t make it to the club for a workout, or find ways to incorporate physical activity into your daily routine through incidental exercise.

GET CREATIVE WITH INCIDENTAL EXERCISE

Incidental exercise is any activity built up in small amounts over the day:

Going to your local shops? Why not walk there? Wherever you’re going, think about whether you could take the opportunity to go for a quick walk, jog or bike ride

Combine exercise with family commitments. If you’re headed to the beach or park, bring along a footy or cricket set and get everyone involved in a quick game! It’s fun, gets you moving and can inject a little friendly competition into your get-togethers

Increase your steps throughout the day – choose the stairs over an elevator or escalator, park a little further away or take the longer route

Enjoy the surroundings outside your home, go outside and do some gardening, or simply go for a walk outside and enjoy the sunset before settling in at the end of the day

REMEMBER TO HAVE FUN

Daily activity is important, but it’s difficult to stay consistent if you don’t enjoy it. Turn an outdoor walk into an adventure, change up your route, or drive to somewhere interesting with a nice view. Learn a new sport or hobby; you could even practise your boxing with some shadowboxing at home.
